Personal Treasures Exhibit in 171's Houghton Gallery
Cherished art objects from private collections
Nov 16 - Dec 21

In 1970, One Seventy One Cedar Street, Inc. produced the exhibit Corning Collects "... to share with the community a random sampling of art from local, private collections. In recognizing the value of living with art on a day-to-day basis, we wish to encourage and sustain interest in painting and sculpture, and in the art of collecting."

Renamed to include collectors from an expanded region, Personal Treasures was last mounted in the Gallery in 2002. Now, ten years later, Personal Treasures hosts a selection of work, which reaffirms the value of living with art on a day-to-day basis. Collectors include: Kathryn Anastasio, Lee Baldwin, Lynn and Ted Dates, Courtney and Dan DeRusha, William Groome, Patricia Jackson, Jan Kather, Marie McKee, Kathrine and Ken Page, and Debb VanDelinder.

In addition, Lee Baldwin has assembled a collection of framed magazine covers from the early 1900s that will be displayed alongside fun and colorful Chinese Jinshan peasant paintings from rural China. The naive Chinese folk art, painted with gouache on rice paper, explores modern urban reality and traditional rural themes. The magazine covers and Jinshan peasant paintings will be on exhibit and for sale through December 21, 2012 - Lee is generously donating a portion of the sales to 171.
