Exhibition: Rob Houghton Photography on display August 31 - October 13
Taking a Closer Look
Aug 31 - Oct 13

On Display in 171’s Houghton Gallery August 31 – October 13, 2018

Reception Friday, August 31, 5:30 – 8 PM

In this show, I share a few of my photographic styles and on-going projects. Each of these images represents my fascination and passion for the visual mystery that surrounds us but is only noticed and appreciated when one takes the time to stop and look carefully. Both my greatest challenge and my greatest joy is trying to create compelling compositions and creative balance within nature’s beautiful chaos and enigmatic shapes.  Some of the images are completely representational and recognizable, while others are more abstract. By ‘taking a closer look’ the true beauty and mystery of these intimate and intricate worlds comes to life.

About the Artist:

Rob Houghton has been taking photographs for over 40 years, one of his main passions and avocations. He was trained in black and white and in the 1970s and 1980's took primarily medium and large format photographs and developed and printed them in his own darkroom. This work was a blend of photo-journalism, portraits and landscapes. For the past 15 years, his work has been exclusively digital with a mix of black and white and color images. He is primarily self-taught, however, he has learned a great deal from fellow photographer friends and colleagues and a few photography courses over the last three decades. Over the years, He has also been influenced by a wide variety of gifted, dedicated, and inspirational photographers and artists.
