Brendan Fox performs Concord Sonata

Brendan Fox is a composer and pianist currently living in Ithaca, NY. He received a Bachelor of Music in Composition and in Piano Performance from Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL. Fox is touring the US with his performance of Charles Ives' Concord Sonata; the sonata's four movements represent figures associated with transcendentalism. In the introduction to his Essays Before a SonataIves said the work was his "impression of the spirit of transcendentalism that is associated in the minds of many with Concord, Massachusetts of over a half century ago." "Charles Ives is considered the father of American classical music, and the Concord Sonata is his masterpiece. With a bold, rugged musical language and breathtaking piano virtuosity he storms the heavens, searching for deep truths in the same way that the Transcendentalists did." Run-time of the performance is approximately 45 minutes. The performance will be followed by a 20-minuteeducational lecture and QA session with Brendan Fox.
