The Elmira Street Painting Festival is a family friendly festival hosted by Elmira Downtown to celebrate the region’s rich arts and cultural community. The Festival spotlights local and regional artists who use the Water Street pavement as their canvas; the streets are transformed into a spectacular art gallery. Participating artists demonstrate their talents on the asphalt – using only chalk – in styles that range from Renaissance classicism to Cubism, Pop Art to Contemporary. These concrete masterpieces are left on the sidewalk for the public to enjoy until the rain washes them away. 171’s booth will feature ceramic wheel-throwing demonstrations – guests will have the opportunity to get a little muddy and try their hand at making a bowl that will be donated to the Food Bank of the Southern Tier’s Empty Bowls program.
