New York State certified art teacher ALLISON NEWKIRK comes to 171 from a full-time position as a high school art instructor. With a Master's Degree in Art History and a BFA in Communications Design (Major: Illustration; Minor: Art Education), Allison brings a strong mix of artistic skill, design sensibility and teaching experience to 171's visual art department, where she currently teaches Studio Art 1 - a school-year-long class for students in grades 3 and 4. Allison Newkirk holds a BFA in communications design from the Pratt Institute and a Master’s Degree in Art History from Hunter College. Currently at home with her young daughter, Allison has taught at Elmira Free Academy and has worked as a freelance design consultant and graphic artist for numerous firms and publishers, as well as a set designer and painter for theater.
